week 1: discuss these questions #3

What do you think a Christian's perspective on the Word of God, the Bible, ought to be? How would you describe what a Christian's relationship to the Bible should look like??

What are some of the things that you think keep people from being what they ought to be?? From believing what the Word of God says about them??

  • The Bible is truth. Its more than just a story.

This makes me think of school, history class (which i hated btw) and how we read the book and took it for fact and there wasnt questioning.

I think God wants us to question. I think that the Bible is truth, but i also think you have to search for truth for the stories to have meaning.
    _____________

The Devil. He came to steal, kill and destroy. He also makes us shameful, and condems us. He can make it hard to come back to God because we feel soo shameful.

  • A Christ follower should view the Bible as the absolute true Word of God..."All scripture is God-breathed..."
As for relationship between a Christian & the Bible...They should read it, memorize it, & live it out. I try to spend time in the Bible daily and apply/live out what it says & but it's a constant struggle to keep that time with God as my top priority.

Some things that keep people from being what the Bible says about them: we look to other people instead of God. The media & pop culture plays a huge role in shaping our opinions of what we/other people should act/look like. When people read about what God says, we can have a hard time believing it for whatever reason. Maybe we disqualify ourselves because of our past or we just hear to much that we suck & are wastes of skin. Or maybe people really don't like themselves, how they look, how they were created...the list goes on.
Keep in mind; we have been made in the perfect image of the Trinity & and God views us as His perfect children.

  • I remember before becoming a christian our family had this HUGE black bible that stayed under my parents bed and got all dusty and stuff. We were catholics and really didn't understand about God's promises and truth. Now, I have more than one and love to delve into all the facets of what God's word means to me. I'm convinced it was presevered for our encouragement, inspiration, motivation, exhortation....and for other reasons too...Your second set of questions are good....It's all in the head. Guess that's why we're encouraged to renew the mind.
